Tour de Pakistan kicks off from Karachi


KARACHI: The Tour de Pakistan has commenced today from Mazar-i-Quaid with 35 cyclists racing their way to Rs1 million in prize money, Express News reported on Monday.
The 5-day cycle race has been organized for the first time by Pakistan Coast Guard (PCG).
The race has been organized in a series of independence day celebrations.
The participant cyclists have come from across the country, belonging to Sui Gas, Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda), Sindh Cycling and  Pakistan Adventure Cycling Association (PACA).
In addition to them, five volunteer cyclists have also taken part in the race.
The cyclists are required to cover 700 kilometers approximately.
The race will cover the areas of Karachi, Uthal, Ormara, Pasni and finally Gwadar.
Director General PCG Colonel Younus said that a good number of coast guards, police and rangers will escort the cyclists to maintain their security, whereas, a helicopter will carry out aerial surveillance up to Gwadar.
The race will conclude on July 29 in Gwadar.
