5,000 cops for Youm-e-Ali security - Karachi

KARACHI -  Due to the deteriorating law and order situation in the city, the Sindh government has ensured foolproof security arrangements on Youm-e-Ali, as more than 5,000 police would be deployed in the city on Monday (today). Walkthrough gates and scanners would be installed along with a command and control room in Nishtar Park. Meanwhile, 1500 policemen from East Zone and 4015 from South Zone would be positioned at the park as well.
These decisions were made in a meeting held to review the arrangements for Youm-e-Ali chaired by Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah at the Chief Minister’s House. The Karachi Electric Supply Company and other departments were instructed to ensure provision of services, especially from 1pm to 11pm on the day. High-rise buildings along the procession routes will be monitored by security agencies and check posts would be set up atop buildings. All the participants of the religious gathering would be searched by the law enforcement forces personnel.
Separately, Interior Minister Rehman Malik has directed that ambulances and fire brigades should be deputed along the procession points. He also directed town administrators to monitor all the arrangements personally. To ensure security, City District Government Karachi workers would be issued special identity cards. Alongside Police and Rangers, volunteers of different organisations of Shia community will also be deployed at security checkposts
