Rain in Karachi; Western Pacific Lighting Up

FIRST MEASURABLE RAIN OF THE SEASON

I do not know how much rain has fallen as of yet (I should be able to know soon), but the weather observations out of Karachi, Pakistan, show downpours with late-day thunderstorms on Tuesday, July 26. The last measurable rain at this site happened last winter on Feb. 20.
Last year, there had already been no fewer than two substantial falls of rain at the same site.
The trigger for the thunderstorms in Karachi and elsewhere in Sindh seems to have been a low pressure wave riding the easterly jet stream (a normal aspect of mid-summer weather maps of the Subcontinent) westward over Gujarat to the northern Arabian Sea. This should have tapped moisture in the low-level Monsoon southwesterlies.
As for the thunderstorms that wetted Pakistan, these seem to have shifted westward over southwestern Pakistan in the region of Baluchistan.
The bigger picture for the Subcontinent seems to be that the west-bound wave temporarily lowered rain coverage in its wake over most of India during the last few days.
As the wave leaves the area by way of Oman (where it will spark stray thunderstorms Wednesday), the some rise in rain coverage and intensity should happen during the next few days in the Subcontinent as a whole. The should include heavy falls against the west coast and western slopes. Sindh, on the other hand, will see fewer storms Wednesday and thereafter.
TWO TROPICAL CYCLONES IN THE WESTERN NORTH PACIFIC OCEAN
Tropical Storm Nock-Ten (10W) is crossing Philippines even as I write. This moderate tropical storm has been a big rainmaker in east-central Philippines (Catanduanes and southeastern Luzon). Rainfall has been in the neighborhood of 48 cm, or 19 inches, at Virac (Catanduanes) and Legaspi (Luzon).
A trek towards the west-northwest, across central Luzon (and greater Manila), will be followed by a return to sea by Thursday. Nock-Ten will leave further flooding rain in its wake.
Next land in the path of Nock-Ten will be southernmost China, likely Hainan, and northern Vietnam. Whether or not it becomes a typhoon, I do not know. The Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) say no.
My recollection is that mid-summer cyclones over the South China Sea tend to buck unfavorable northerly shearing winds aloft, and often have top winds held below typhoon status.
JAPAN WILL BE WATCHING TD 11W
Tropical Depression Eleven (11W) will be the next tropical storm, maybe even the next typhoon. TD 11W is south-southwest of Guam, aimed towards the northwest.
The JTWC forecast 11W to gain typhoon status over the open Philippine Sea on Friday (late-day, local time).
Ultimately, 11W could reach the shores of Japan, although this would not happen until sometime next week.

Karachi: “Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Education Pavilion in My-Karachi Exhibition will act as cornerstone to link Academia with Industry and encourage youth for self-employment; another unique example has been set to promote education and entrepreneurship”, stated by Muhammad Saeed Shafiq, President-KCCI, in the My-Karachi Education Pavilion Prize Distribution Ceremony held at Karachi Expo Centre where cash prizes worth over Rs.1 Million were distributed amongst top four projects keeping in view the productivity and advantage to the society. Rear Admiral Syed Khawar Ali, Commander Karachi graced the ceremony as Chief Guest while the students and faculty of various universities exhibiting their projects/ innovations in the field of engineering, I.T. Textiles and Business Studies extensively attended the ceremony.
Saeed Shafiq highlighted that to promote professional education he evolved the idea to dedicate one complete hall at Karachi Expo Centre, free of cost, to young entrepreneurs, innovators from different universities of Karachi and Pakistan, to exhibit and demonstrate their innovations. He said that KCCI has set significant trend to uplift education and entrepreneurship.
This imperative initiative will not only encourage youth to register their patents but also attract the industrial concerns for manufacturing the innovations on commercial basis. He said that the Nation has great expectation from Youth and therefore he conveys the message to youth to dedicate themselves to towards studies and with high spirit, hope, loyalty and devotion, rise the homeland to the new horizons of progress and prosperity. He lamented that overall the society was facing ills and odds in the form of ethnic and sectarian divide which acted detrimental for the prosperity of Nation. He emphasized on unity, discipline and hard work.
Although, the country was going through a difficult time with scarcity of employment opportunities, however, the youth must not lose hope, he added. He said that our team at KCCI is available to support the young entrepreneurs to opt for self-employment where guidelines and training may be offered in all aspects. Earlier, a debate competition of universities’ students was also organized where President-KCCI gave the message to the youth to preach, unity and harmony to uplift the country’s image for progressive development. The students debated over unsocial trends and unfair practices of the society and shared ideas for peace and prosperity.
Rear Admiral Syed Khawar Ali, Commander Karachi in his address endorsed the vital role of KCCI to uplift national economy and promote trade and industry. He stated “I am deeply impressed with the great efforts of KCCI to revive peace in the city”. He stated that KCCI’s My-Karachi Exhibition is a bold initiative to give a message to the Nation and countries around the globe that we are resilient Nation and accomplished to handle all challenges. He voiced that Pakistani Children and Youth have proven their talent of being the best while achieving academic distinctions worldwide. He said that Pak Nation contributes highest charity in the world and Pakistan is the only country around the globe which had given asylum to over 500,000 refugees.
Talat Mahmood, Senior Vice President-KCCI, asserted upon the youth to boost their passion to serve Pakistan. He said “the Education Pavilion will be regular feature of Annual My-Karachi Exhibition.” A.Q. Khalil, former President-KCCI, highlighted the vision of KCCI to promote education, produce talented and skilled human resource to cater the national industrial and commercial needs. Ateeq ur Rehman, Ex-Executive Member-KCCI articulated that Education Pavilion will encourage entrepreneurship and stop brain drain. Cash Awards were sponsored by prominent members of KCCI, Khalil Nanitalwala, Shamim Ahmed Firpo and Chaudhry Ansar Javed who also spoke at the occasion.
Haroon Farooki, Vice Chairman, Businessmen Group and former President-KCCI, Junaid Esmail Makda, Vice President-KCCI, Majyd Aziz A.Q. Khalil, former Presidents, and Managing Committee Members of KCCI also graced the ceremony with their presence.
