5,000 cops for Youm-e-Ali security - Karachi


KARACHI -  Due to the deteriorating law and order situation in the city, the Sindh government has ensured foolproof security arrangements on Youm-e-Ali, as more than 5,000 police would be deployed in the city on Monday (today). Walkthrough gates and scanners would be installed along with a command and control room in Nishtar Park. Meanwhile, 1500 policemen from East Zone and 4015 from South Zone would be positioned at the park as well.
These decisions were made in a meeting held to review the arrangements for Youm-e-Ali chaired by Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah at the Chief Minister’s House. The Karachi Electric Supply Company and other departments were instructed to ensure provision of services, especially from 1pm to 11pm on the day. High-rise buildings along the procession routes will be monitored by security agencies and check posts would be set up atop buildings. All the participants of the religious gathering would be searched by the law enforcement forces personnel.
Separately, Interior Minister Rehman Malik has directed that ambulances and fire brigades should be deputed along the procession points. He also directed town administrators to monitor all the arrangements personally. To ensure security, City District Government Karachi workers would be issued special identity cards. Alongside Police and Rangers, volunteers of different organisations of Shia community will also be deployed at security checkposts

Tour de Pakistan kicks off from Karachi


KARACHI: The Tour de Pakistan has commenced today from Mazar-i-Quaid with 35 cyclists racing their way to Rs1 million in prize money, Express News reported on Monday.
The 5-day cycle race has been organized for the first time by Pakistan Coast Guard (PCG).
The race has been organized in a series of independence day celebrations.
The participant cyclists have come from across the country, belonging to Sui Gas, Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda), Sindh Cycling and  Pakistan Adventure Cycling Association (PACA).
In addition to them, five volunteer cyclists have also taken part in the race.
The cyclists are required to cover 700 kilometers approximately.
The race will cover the areas of Karachi, Uthal, Ormara, Pasni and finally Gwadar.
Director General PCG Colonel Younus said that a good number of coast guards, police and rangers will escort the cyclists to maintain their security, whereas, a helicopter will carry out aerial surveillance up to Gwadar.
The race will conclude on July 29 in Gwadar.

KARACHI: Saadi Abbas who bagged gold in the Asian Karate Championship retuned home. He was accorded warm welcome upon his arrival at Karachi airport. Five players had participated in the event being held in China but the nation feels proud over the performance of Saadi Abbas through out the championship.
Saadi said that after winning the Asian Karate Championship he was focusing on world title.
Sisters of Saadi said that they were proud of their brother, Saadi vowed to win the medal for Pakistan in childhood and he received reward for his hard working.
President of Pakistan Karate Federation Muhammad Jehangir also returned home along with Saadi. He said winning of the event gave a new life to Karate in the country.
